New York Yarn

Loft Yarn from Purl Soho. I got two skeins. I’m hoping to make a scarf (lace?) for myself.

Add new experiences

My normal routine goes like this: Tues-Sat: work. I might go and spend time with my boyfriend after work, but normally I go home. I sometimes make myself dinner, normally just have a big meal during the day and have a snack at night. I work late two nights a week, and days I don’t, I like to spend time watching hulu or netflix and knitting.

Now, Friday nights are hard sometimes because I have to work the next morning and sometimes I’ll go to a party or out to dinner or dancing so, sometimes, that’s interesting (like Saturday mornings I’m sometimes the teeniest bit hung over. Not often!). Saturdays, weather permitting, I go running after I get out of work, then, I’ll have some “me” time (paint my nails, do a hair treatment, eat some chocolate, you get the idea!) then I might go out to dinner with my boyfriend or friends maybe go to a party. Sundays are for laundry and putzing around the house. Mondays are for errands, grocery shopping and sometimes cooking.

And that’s it. I’ve been doing that for about three months now. I do things I enjoy but day trips are so easy to do where I’m located (two hours from Boston or New York).

So, yesterday, Christana and I took a bus to NYC for the day.

We went to Soho.

Everyone knows Purl Soho is the best, at least I hope you do! I love this store. I wish it was my local yarn store. Almost as much as I wish WEBS was my LYS but Purl always has niche yarns – I picked up some Loft by Brooklyn Tweed. Hoping that I will be back soon – there was some more yarn I wanted just didn’t want to buy ALL the yarns on this one trip.

We did meet up with some other people for a bit and then went to the met. This girl was on a mission to instagram this shot.

I’ve never been to the met and it was very much fun – hoping to go again and soon. Maybe on a less crowded day!

All and all it was a good day, we ate good food and chatted as we headed to our various destinations  It was definitely a day made possible by the introduction of an iphone into my life – I used it constantly to look up where we wanted to go was! I do have more various moments and share as well as yarn, more later. (we DID miss our bus – somewhat epic and crazy taxi ride, stressful running through port authority and waving after the bus – still did miss it. LUCK us – it was not the last bus – so we just had to wait 2 hours for the next, so at least we made it home, though at 1am)

A Day Trip: Northampton

I went to Northampton yesterday. I end up going up there every year around this time, and it’s normally to visit WEBS, the giant yarn store in Northampton, but we ended up going on a Sunday, when they’re closed.

I love the town. It’s very focused on local, organic and sustainability. It’s so incredibly hipster. I love it. There’s owls, nail art and yarn everywhere. Everything I like. One day, I’d love to live in that area!

We walked around most of the day and shopped. Boyfriends came too and it was fun to get lunch out too (we went to the Northampton Brewery, which I really recommend). It was a good lunch.

I thought these soaps were so interesting! Bicycle power? They weren’t even packaged! Just had a little sticker on the outside. I have ridiculous amounts of handmade soap so I didn’t get any of these but I did get a shampoo bar. I have three of them already. I think maybe I should stop buy soap for a while.

The BF kept telling me I shouldn’t like this. But I’m pretty sure that’s a print of Elizabeth Zimmermann, so I do love it. It was right near the parking garage we were in.

I love this little bakery. We got some cookies and meringues. I also bought some chocolates which didn’t last long, hence no picture.

I found that book in a used book store (there are 3? in northampton!) and I may not knit any of the patterns but I love the history behind it. All the sweater patterns are inspired by the styles that an Ohio knitting mill made over the decades. I think it’d make a great coffee table book!

Must get better for yarn

Still sick. I felt better monday and went to work… Then my mistake was not going to bed early and not drinking enough water/tea that day. I felt awful again by mid-day tuesday. Then, wednesday morning woke up with a fever and no voice. Went to the doctors, was told not to talk and not to work for a while. I am now armed with medication, both for the cold (antibiotics) and my allergies which are apparently making it worse.

I’m home again today for the second day in a row, and my plan is to stay up and active until about 1pm then try for a nap. Between now and then, I plan on drinking two teapots full of tea. Luckily I like tea.

I have been knitting – a lot. This Pogona I just started this weekend. It’s for a christmas present.Image

I think I might finish it tomorrow at this rate. I just washed my sweater I’m going to wear to Rhinebeck (no, I didn’t knit it just for rhinebeck but it needed a wash). I have to be better by Saturday and unless my voice magically comes back and I feel 100% I’m not going to work tomorrow. I need to think about what I’m going to dress my good friend Mullica in (whose coming with me but has not knitted a sweater yet), and wash that as well.

I’m thinking of baking some muffins for the morning breakfast on saturday. I’m basically sick of pumpkin. Any suggestions?

Plugging Away

A snapshot of my current knitting projects, sleeves of my White Pine sweater (I finished the body) are the blue things (I’m knitting them two at a time!). The circular green/blue thing is a circle scarf in Bugga! I’m excited about this, it’s a new design. And finally a single mitten that I just finished, Mod by Kristen Kapur. I loved the pattern but I didn’t like the afterthought thumb, so that is of my own modification.

I’m apparently relatively bad at blogging. I have been cooking though not much. My boyfriend’s mother is an awesome cook and we had gone over her house this weekend and come home with three nights worth of leftovers. I’ve honestly been somewhat blah about cooking, and baking, because I haven’t had much time to exercise, therefore too much baking isn’t good!

More soon. I did go and get some interesting stuff at the Chinese grocery, and I will be cooking soon!

For knitting:

I finished these socks. They are the Stalagmite Socks from Knit.Sock.Love. by Cookie A.  They’re for my Nana, who is leaving today by her self with her dog on a trip to Florida from CT in a big truck and Gypsy caravan my grandfather built.

I loved knitting them, though they are rather complicated at times. They did take about a month to make.

I’m also currently knitting my sweater that never ends, and those mittens. I have a new design in the works as well, a circle scarf in Bugga!

Upcoming

This pattern, the hat and scarf together will be soon offered for sale. $4 a pdf for the set. I’m working on editing the pattern before I publish it. I’ll post all about it when I publish the pattern! On a side note, isn’t my boyfriend cute?

I also have a pattern I made for a scarf for Josh’s brother, which has already been published on Ravelry, and is available for free already.

It’s a rather simple pattern, and didn’t take me long. It’s just diagonal rib framed with garter stitch.

I’m also planning a couple other patterns upcoming, so look out for those.
